Headsight began when can’t died.

As a typical boy on the farm, it was easy for young Rich Gramm to complain “I can’t do this” when an obstacle arose while trying to accomplish a task. His wise father Ed always replied, “Can’t died, go try again.”

When he became a man Rich learned to apply his father’s wisdom. He worked as a salesman for a local implement dealer and was known not as a salesman but as a problem solver. When customers were up against the wall or in need of a solution it was common for Rich to be getting a call.

One day a farmer came to him and said “can you design something to help regulate the height of my corn header?” That is all it took and Rich started working on different designs and possibilities and testing them in the field. Along with the help of a good friend, Chris Stiedinger and many others, designs were made, problems were found and because ‘can’t died’ solutions were found for each one.

The latest design (a flexible poly paddle) was formed on Rich’s kitchen table with a piece of scrap paper, which his roommate almost threw away. The success from this single product and idea has been astounding not just at the growth of the company but at the satisfaction of the customers and their pleasure when finding out that they are less tired at the end of a day of harvesting.

While at a farm show in 2002 a farmer expressed another need in height control, in the area of harvesting standing grains. After two years of designing and testing the product was released to market in 2004. It is designed to fit on draper, rigid, and flex headers used in standing grains and like its counterpart is simple yet durable and versatile.

Today this small corporation still operates as a very close-knit family style business that knows “can’t” is still dead. We realize the reason for our success is due to the talents and blessings from our Lord and Creator. We are working to please Him and know these things are but passing.

As a company built around solving problems we take time to recognize the greatest problem solver of all, and say, “For far greater insight, seek the Light of the world who’s been giving sight for thousands of years. See Saint John 1.”
